F+ Beer

Adventures in Homebrewing and All Things Hoppy

Progress Report: Slow Education

My first brew turned out ok for a first try, but was plagued by that crappy hose-related oxidization problem I bitched about. Therefore, the quality was hard to judge, as it was clouded by that wet-cardboard taste associated with the oxidized process. Whether a one-off bottle or due to something else (probably the former), I opened another bottle the other day, and the oxidation was very, very diminished. The beer tasted pretty decent, and I had to think twice to make sure I didn’t accidently grab a Miso Bitter (2nd batch). Odd. Oxidation flavors are not generally supposed to diminish over time, so I’ll chalk this phenomenon up to a “lucky bottle”.
